Health and safety

Group safety managersPart of our team of Group safety managersHealth and safety is fundamental to every day life, especially in the workplace, which is why at Mott MacDonald we have a dedicated team of professionals who are not only looking after the health and safety of our staff but also working with customers to ensure it’s top of the agenda on our projects.

These activities are driven by our health and safety policy which is stated in writing, signed by the Chairman and displayed throughout the company, with formal processes in place to implement it. To fulfil the policy, staff at all levels are involved in taking responsibilities as set out in Mott MacDonald’s quality, environment and safety system (QES). A Group Board director has particular responsibility for health, safety and welfare and the QES department is charged with implementing the policy, which is monitored by the Group safety manager.

Our Group safety manager is responsible for the application, operation and development of our health and safety approach on a day-to-day basis. The Group safety manager leads a team of qualified safety advisors with wide experience in providing professional advice and practical solutions to safety problems. They give information, advice and support to employees on health and safety matters – personally or via our globally accessible intranet. Part of the team’s role is to work with our business units to ensure compliance with legislations and application of safety requirements both internally and externally, so that health and safety considerations are always given priority in every assignment’s life cycle.

Taking a proactive approach the team also encourages our business units to obtain certification. We’re then in a position to provide external verification that we are complying with our legal duties under health and safety legislation and can react quickly to our customers’ expectations.

Worldwide our continuing aim is to raise standards of health and safety and all reasonably practicable measures are taken to minimise risk to our employees and others who may be affected by our operations – in every case a high standard of health and safety is pursued. We’re committed to the integration of safety in all areas of corporate activity and strive for continuous improvement so that the Group’s safety performance gets even better year on year.

At Mott MacDonald we believe there’s much more to safety than complying with legislation – we aim to go the extra mile to fulfil our moral obligation to look after the safety and welfare of our staff around the world, and others who may be affected by our activities. We’re therefore committed to applying the same high level approach to safety for employees everywhere. Our system provides information and training on health and safety to ensure that all our staff and others who work on our behalf can carry out their work safely. We also offer a free and completely confidential external counselling service and information helpline in various countries to support employees with their day-to-day and work/life balance.
