Urban growth and regeneration
For the Municipality of Tirana, Albania, we’re engaging citizens’ commissions, non-governmental organisations, the business community and the chamber of commerce to develop a shared vision for the city’s future development. The project covers health, education, housing, transport, the environment and job creation.
Environment
For the government of Albania we’re preparing risk assessment and management strategies for the Buna and Drini Rivers, aimed at reducing economic, social and environmental losses. Our study, funded by the World Bank, is creating hydrological and hydraulic models that will be used to test a range of flood mitigation options and select the most economically beneficial solutions.
For the Ministry of Agriculture we carried out a technical evaluation of the condition and safety of 195 earth fill dams including a portfolio risk assessment and investment planning. We also developed dam break analysis and flood inundation mapping in addition to producing emergency action plans.
The World Bank has appointed us to study the economic feasibility of constructing 14 new agricultural dams. Farming contributes 18% of Albania’s gross domestic product and provides 50% of the country’s employment. We will develop engineering designs for dams offering clear economic benefit.
Highways
In a recent EU-funded project, we worked alongside the Albanian Road Authority to improve the management of all bridges on the road network. This was achieved by providing an appropriate bridge asset management system designed collaboratively with the Albanian Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Telecommunications, and the General Roads Directorate.
We assessed the feasibility of constructing a major trunk road to connect Durres, the second largest city in Albania, with Morine, the border crossing into Kosovo, focusing on three alternative routes once the road joins Milot.
