Transport
We've been working continuously at the Hong Kong International Airport for more than 20 years. We set out the development strategy and led the design of Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the North Satellite Concourse. Currently we are designing two of the airport’s current major expansion projects, the Midfield Concourse and the third runway, and we are providing planning, lighting, and fire and life safety service for the Western Apron.
Creation of the Lantau Link was recommended in the Port and Airport Development Strategy we produced for the Hong Kong government in 1989. We had leading roles throughout the project, providing concept and detailed designs for the £600 million Tsing Ma Bridge and concept design and specification for the £180 million Kap Shui Mun Bridge. We managed construction of the whole Lantau Link, plus the 8-mile (12.5-kilometer) North Lantau Expressway.
For the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge we were the lead contractor’s designer for the 5.8-mile (9.4-kilometer) viaduct section at the Hong Kong end of this dual three-lane link with Macau and China. We supervised design and construction of the 19-mile (30-kilometer) Chinese section of the link, including a major cable-stayed bridge, two man-made islands and a 4-mile (6-kilometer) immersed tube tunnel across the Pearl River estuary. The $1.7 billion (HK$12.9 billion) project is the largest single design and build contract ever awarded in Hong Kong.
We were appointed as contractor’s designer for the MTR Corporation’s Shatin to Central Link (SCL). The work comprises the construction of two new underground stations in the densely populated Kowloon City and one mile (1.6 kilometers) of twin-bored tunnel.
For the Lok Ma Chau rail terminus, border control, transport interchange, and wastewater treatment facilities we provided civil, structural, building services, and architectural design, project management, construction supervision, and environmental monitoring. The station and border crossing are designed to handle 250,000 people per day.
