The study comprises vital information obtained during the environmental monitoring on the coastal area between the municipalities of Chaves in Pará state and Raposa in Maranhão state. This project aimed to provide local knowledge on current and related activities.
Information was captured from interviews with prefectures, municipal authorities, environmental and conservation agencies, fishery agencies, Quilombolas communities and the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute. Wider data from local research centres was also evaluated.
Challenges
To access local knowledge we had to overcome logistical issues, such as accessing certain remote areas in north and northeast Brazil, monitoring tides and their currents and sourcing accommodation and food supply.
With helped the client undertake the full range of technical work necessary following the Brazilian environmental agency (IBAMA) requirements.
Value and benefits
Consolidating regional technical and scientific knowledge, this key initiative was considered as an important investment in the oil and gas sector.
Local stakeholders recognised the essential contribution that OGX and our team made with the publication of such information.
