Buildings
Our team is playing a key role in easing Bahrain’s housing shortage, where there’s a long waiting list of families for social housing. Under a public private partnership (PPP) in line with the Ministry of Housing requirements, 2450 homes are to be built on two sites, including the newly reclaimed North Bahrain New Town. On a separate project, also for the Ministry of Housing and on one of the islands forming the North Bahrain New Town, we are providing infrastructure and management services for 1700 social housing units to be constructed over the next two years.
We were lead consultant and engineer for the £200 million Bahrain city centre mall – boasting 207,000 m² of retail space, two hotels, a 20-screen multiplex cinema and the Middle East’s largest indoor climate controlled water park. Our role included the design of all architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and public health services plus roads and infrastructure, vertical transportation, lighting and façade engineering services.
Water and power
We are currently working on two major projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain – a £315 million water transmission network and a £200 million 400kV transmission development. Both projects for the Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) cover the entire country and will help Bahrain realise its 2030 Vision, a comprehensive economic development plan aimed at building a better life for every Bahraini. The projects are being introduced to accommodate increasing demand for both water and electricity, largely driven by the Kingdom's new industrial, commercial, and residential and tourism developments.
Our role involves reviewing the existing 2006-2020 strategic master plan, carrying out investigation and system studies, and developing a conceptual plan for implementing the project. We're also providing the cost estimation, supervising the prequalification of contractors as well as developing designs and tender documents for the 15 contract packages to be executed. We're also undertaking project management and construction supervision of all the works.
The water transmission project will enable EWA to manage the water produced by the Al Dur plant and allow it to be distributed to distribution centres throughout Bahrain. It involves construction of 130km of new and replacement pipeline, nine new and seven upgraded pumping stations, 28 storage tanks holding from 9 to 90 million litres and 13 water towers of up to 6.8 million litres capacity.
