Water and power
Mott MacDonald is advising the government on how to establish a new regulatory authority in order to attract investment in Botswana’s power and water sectors. We are providing the legal, economic, social, institutional and specialist power and water sector expertise needed to create a strong and efficient independent regulator – the key to attracting private sector finance. Investment will enable Botswana to meet growing demand for power and water and improve standards of living.
In 2006 the Zambezi River Authority appointed Mott MacDonald to assist with the formulation of an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) strategy for the Zambezi River Basin. Covering countries in the Southern African Development Community region including Botswana, the river provides for around 40 million people.
The IWRM strategy aimed to define measures in support of integrated water resources management and protection against floods, droughts, pollution and environmental degradation. This was supported by a shared water information system for the basin, a rapid assessment report highlighting the status of water resources availability and demands and a process of consultation with stakeholders at national and regional levels.
Health
Our health team is proactively addressing healthcare challenges across Africa. One key role involved developing a long-term integrated health service plan to meet the Botswana’s health needs over ten years. The plan assisted in developing local capacity within the Ministry of Health and that of major health care delivery institutions. It also helped to strengthen management processes.

From education and health facilities to police stations and residential and industrial environments, our portfolio includes the broadest range of buildings.
Key examples of local projects we've contributed to include new urban police stations, extensions to Lobatse Teachers’ Training College and a water utilities headquarters, and a residential block for Gaborone Private Hospital.
