Mott MacDonald acted as the lenders' technical advisor for the Argentina Fast Power Project, which reached financial close on April 2016. This transaction represented the first international project financing in Argentina in more than 15 years, and was a landmark achievement for developers, banks, and the deal advisors.
Given the significance of the transaction to the Argentine project finance market, paving the way for additional projects, the Argentina Fast Power Project was recently named Structured Financing Deal of the Year by LatinFinance. The Deals of the Year Awards by LatinFinance are chosen through a rigorous and thorough selection process.
The Mott MacDonald team was led by Project Manager Hassan Hamdan from the Westwood office and supported by Alana Paul from the Washington, DC office on the environmental and social aspects. We advised Citi as the deal's joint lead arranger, along with Credit Suisse and Export Development Canada (EDC). Mott MacDonald also provided construction monitoring services to the lenders.
Both thermal plants have been successfully commissioned, achieving guaranteed Commercial Operation Dates (COD) and Performances. Mott MacDonald has started the operations monitoring services and will continue to do so for the next two years.
Our success was achieved by handling technical complexities and drawing on our overall understanding of project finance challenges in different parts of the world. Mott MacDonald was awarded multiple assignments immediately after this success, leveraging lessons learned and experience gained from this transaction in the Argentine market.
