Project and cost management

Ward in Taunton and Somerset Hospital, UKAs cost advisor for Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust’s Procure 21 programme we’re providing support on its capital programme to improve facilities by upgrading and refurbishing existingOur project management services embrace every facet and every phase of project delivery. We drive the whole process, taking care of everything from preparing the brief and analysing and advising on risk and associated issues to helping appoint the project team, briefing them fully, agreeing and issuing specific procedures and managing development of phase programmes.

We provide the full spectrum of project management disciplines backed by advanced systems, reliable and accurate data and innovative management techniques to ensure we give our customers all the support they need through the whole life cycle of their projects, from inception to post-completion aftercare. We provide a comprehensive suite of project and loan monitoring services designed to address the relevant issues before and after financial commitment. We have a proven track record in providing these services for a wide range of customers, from banks and financial institutions to tenants and end users.

In terms of managing costs, our cost consultants at Franklin + Andrews have extensive experience in the field of healthcare property services dating back to our first appointment with Croydon Union Infirmary in the 1880s. We fully understand the complexities of the full spectrum of healthcare projects in both public and private sectors from minor ward refurbishments and extensions to construction of new buildings or entire hospitals.

We draw on the traditional disciplines of quantity surveying including quantification, estimating, construction economics, procurement and contractual issues combining these with benchmarking against similar products, tailored procurement advice, risk and value management plus a sound commercial and analytical approach. We fully understand the complexities of each project, appreciating their differing requirements and priorities. For example extensions and refurbishments must take account of the need to maintain a working hospital environment with access for staff, patients and the public at all times. These allowances need to include out-of-hours working, increased security, mechanical and electrical services diversion and back-up facilities.

Our staff have experience in providing these services across the complete range of procurement options from traditional one-off projects, framework agreements, PFI/PPP and LIFT schemes through to the NHS Procure 21 initiative. We are also familiar with the particular needs of the NHS CIM (Capital Investment Manual) procedures and the cost reporting requirements required at various stages of NHS projects.
