Minerals, metals and mining

Man at Jebel Ali smelter, UAEWe’ve served as engineer to Dubai Aluminium Company (DUBAL) for the last four expansion projects at its Jebel Ali smelter, our latest role cover-ing power facilities, civil works and project management of a programme designed to increase production to 710,000 tonnes per annumAt Mott MacDonald we offer a broad spectrum of skills for metals and minerals related projects – conducting feasibility studies and investigations, carrying out detailed design, undertaking construction management, acting as EPCM contractor, inspecting equipment, supervising final commissioning and developing operation and maintenance strategies.

Metals refining projects include electric arc, VIM and ladle furnaces for carbon and stainless steels, aluminium smelters and nickel reduction facilities. Our track record in processing features steel and non-ferrous rolling mills with associated reheat furnaces, edgers, levellers, cooling banks, shears, straighteners and stackers. We’re also experienced in copper foil plants, chemical milling plants, magnet factories and steel casting facilities. In addition, we’re able to bring a total suite of skills in associated requirements such as mechanical services, cooling systems, power generation and distribution.

Complementing this is our experience in developing facilities for processing a diverse range of minerals – from precious metals to float glass – and in providing services for the mining sector. These cover aspects such as geology, geotechnics, project management, environmental assessment and infrastructure such as roads, railways, ports, tailings dams, power, water supply and materials handling.

Our capabilities are enhanced through our formal relationship with Connell Hatch, operating in the Asia Pacific region, which provides additional support and specialist expertise for specific infrastructure needs as required.
