We have further enhanced our position as a leading provider of services to the nuclear sector with the acquisition of UK nuclear consultancy Multi-Design and an exclusive agreement with American nuclear specialist, EXCEL Services Corporation. Multi-Design brings world-class skills in architecture, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering in a nuclear environment, while EXCEL Services Corporation provides expertise in nuclear reactor technology and licensing to projects outside the USA.

Conceptual design and front-end engineering

Mott MacDonald has the flexibility to assist customers in front-end engineering activities, covering specification development, optioneering studies, architect engineering and general specification for detailed design. We seek to deliver cost effective requirements leading to successful design implementation.

Design integration

We have extensive experience of working with all levels of the supply chain and contractors to deliver complex projects on budget and to programme. We have a great deal of experience in engaging and managing stakeholders from users, sponsors and regulatory bodies to ensure all requirements are correctly interpreted and implemented within an integrated design.

Safety case

We have a reputation for the quality of our modern safety cases. Our experts fully understand the requirement of quantified safety cases. Our safety case authors and reviewers can perform assessments, HAZOPs, HAZAN, probabilistic safety analysis, fault trees and preliminary safety reports to optimise the design of a facility such that safety and costs are effectively balanced. We also have experience of working with regulators to demonstrate that a process or facility meets the NII’s safety assessment principles.

Engineering substantiation and design assurance

We provide a complete service including desk top studies, plant surveys and walk downs, stakeholder engagement with project staff and customers representatives. Our skill areas cover pressure vessels, mechanical handling equipment, ventilation plant, electrical systems, control systems, pipework and structures. We also provide an independent technical assessment service.

Decommissioning

From a project’s inception to construction and commissioning, Mott MacDonald can provide multi-disciplinary design teams to meet the specific needs of the nuclear industry. We work with our customers to deliver innovative decommissioning and clean up solutions on storage and decommissioning facilities, and are able to offer services to extend plant life and refurbish existing assets.

Project management

With a dedicated business to serve our customers we aim to provide the highest standards of service in project management. We integrate project management into all of our delivery teams and appoint a dedicated project director and manager to ensure a project meets the customer and stakeholders’ requirements.
