Skills and services
STEPS, the PC-based program we’ve developed to model
people behaviour in both normal and emergency situations, is a
valuable tool for effective fire safety design in terminals and
underground stationsThanks to our century’s experience in
all forms of transport world-wide – in road, rail, sea and air – at
Mott MacDonald we’re able to bring an holistic approach to any
project on any scale, taking care of every aspect in the
development cycle including planning, financial, design and
construction requirements. We’re equally well equipped to provide discrete highly specialist services for strategic parts of multi-faceted projects. Whatever our customers need, we always tailor our services to meet their requirements and deliver a sustainable, low maintenance scheme. And we keep focused on the need to maintain the highest levels of quality control, reliability and safety while optimising operating, energy and maintenance costs.
Our service scope begins with initial concept planning, demand forecasting and project costing. We then assist customers through the formal planning process, undertake environmental assess-ments and check customer requirements are met before moving to detailed design and procurement. At each stage we work closely with our customers and provide regular reporting – financial, technical and progress. And we’re strong believers in post-project services as an important part of our customer relationship management ethos.
Transport projects present their own special blend of challenges for effective planning and efficient delivery – not least because many involve numerous disciplines. At Mott MacDonald we have the advantage of top quality staff offering a huge depth and breadth of experience – several are known within the industry as leaders in their disciplines and contribute to best practice. For any project we’re able to rapidly bring together a tailored in-house team covering every discipline needed to suit our customers’ require-ments – from environmentalists, planners and economists to procurement experts, analysts, engineers and managers. Additionally, our extensive experience in applying human factors techniques to examine the many factors that can affect human performance and human error on overall transport system risk contributes to achieving optimal task efficiency and system performance as well as minimum costs due to work-related accidents and ill-health, and maximum overall business performance. Our team of qualified ergonomists, applied psychologists and safety/risk engineers is registered with the Ergonomics Society of Great Britain and provide a wide range of human factors consultancy services from human factors management and safety risk assessment to system design support and training analysis.
Close interaction with the travelling public is another crucial feature of transport projects, bringing intense emphasis on safety, social and environmental requirements – during both the development of a scheme and its service life. We have all the experience and in-house resources needed to address these essential elements, working closely with our customers and engaging with all stakeholders.
Our ability to achieve cost-efficiency for our customers through innovation – both technically and in how we deliver – is another skill we take pride in. From our experience we believe this is best achieved through close integration with our customer’s team at all stages in the project’s development – an approach that fosters ingenuity through collaboration.
