Urban development

Inside Bahrain City CentreWe were lead consultant and engineer for the £200 million Bahrain City Centre – boasting 207,000m² of retail space, a 20-screen multiplex cinema and the Middle East’s largest indoor climate controlled water park Delivering successful and sustained urban development in line with current government aspirations and policy requires a comprehensive, multi-disciplined approach and a major commitment of skills and resources.

Our teams are skilled in addressing the challenges of complex urban environments using flexibility, flair and innovation combined with our full range of in-house professional and technical skills.

We’re engaged in all aspects of the regeneration process from transport, energy, water and the environment, to building, industry, communications, master-planning and project management, health and education infrastructure. Our worldwide network means we can offer a locally based service while drawing on the strong technical support of our international resources.

We understand the challenges faced in urban development at all levels of society, particularly resolving the potential conflicts in the formation of national policies while embracing social diversity at regional and local levels. Mott MacDonald has played an active part in reviewing and commenting upon policy and the formation of guidance on the impact of a change of policy changes to both government and corporate business.

Working in partnership with developers, communities, government and conservation bodies, we plan and implement schemes designed to add value for investors and users alike. Our projects range from eco-cities and inner-city regeneration schemes to mixed-use developments and transport interchanges with associated community or tourism facilities. Our sustainability specialists, including Mott MacDonald Fulcrum, are acting as energy and sustainability master planners for communities combining 100,000 homes, 65,000 of which will be carbon zero.
