Enhancing the environment
We led the fast-track Ashton Canal Corridor
regeneration scheme in readiness for the 2002 Commonwealth Games in
Manchester. The role involved many activities including planning
and designing major environ-mental enhancements together with
landscapingCentral to our urban environment philosophy is
the issue of sustainability. Any project that we are involved in –
be it the provision of green spaces, local infrastructure or
community facilities – is subject to rigorous planning and analysis
to ensure that it is as sustainable as possible. The award-winning ecos centre in Northern Ireland is a prime example of a sustainable solution that works for its local community today as well as tomorrow. By focusing on biodiversity, sustainability and renewable energy, the centre is designed to meet over two thirds of its energy demand from renewable sources and reduce C02 emissions.
Our teams of environmental scientists, ecologists and landscape architects work closely with our planning and infrastructure engineering teams, aiming to improve the aesthetic and ecological value of urban regeneration and development projects. Our skills in developing an initial brief into a full-scale design – taking into account landscape, ecological issues, community and stakeholder aspirations, urban utilities and services, transport constraints and planning guidance – has led to the provision of services that are highly valued by our customers.
