Mott MacDonald’s British Expertise Awards
Mott MacDonald representatives enjoyed a successful night at this
year’s British Expertise Awards, winning two highly prestigious
awards and being highly commended for a third.
Mott MacDonald scooped the Major Consultancy Firm of the Year Award – for the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) in Kuala Lumpur. This world-first combined flood diversion and highway tunnel relieves both flooding and traffic congestion in the Malaysian capital. Mott MacDonald designed the dual-purpose section, provided specialist consultancy for tunnelling overall, and acted as the client’s representative.
Mott MacDonald water engineer and project manager, Mubashir Niaz beat off stiff competition to triumph in the Individual of the Year category. Mubashir supported Oxfam by leading a team of engineers and technicians in helping to provide clean water and sanitation to more than 140,000 people, following the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan last October.
In the Open Award for Sustainability, a Mott MacDonald project received the Highly Commended Award. Project Polar is the first Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) scheme of its kind in China. The project has involved the construction of a thermal destruction plant designed to eliminate a particularly potent greenhouse gas, with a potential impact of 11,700 times that of carbon dioxide. This important project is highly significant as it will be eliminating the equivalent emissions of more than 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
Chris Davis, Mott MacDonald’s professional excellence director said, “This is a great result for Mott MacDonald, we are very proud of our award winners and delighted that their innovation and commitment to professional excellence has been recognised by these prestigious awards.”
