Health and education
Strengthening government capacity in health policy planning and financing, improving systems to manage health services and developing better quality preventative and curative services for common health problems for the poor were just some of the outputs of our work for the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) as it aimed to make affordable services available to Nigeria’s general population.
Our education specialists have been involved in numerous projects to support government and its commitment to transforming the country’s education system.
Among our key assignments is the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN), which intends to develop a system in which every child in the country is given the opportunity to receive a basic standard of education. As programme designer, we assessed educational shortcomings and supporting government, teachers and communities to create the conditions in which an effective learning environment can be nurtured.
In the state of Lagos, we've been contracted by DFID to deliver the Developing Effective Private Education Nigeria (DEEPEN) programme which is targeted to enhance the learning outcomes of poor children by improving the functioning of the market in low-cost private education.
In the north of the country, we've been working in six states to improve the skills of teachers in the core curriculum subjects of maths, science and technology and English. Teachers will be trained using an innovative model that combines elements of face-to-face training and in-school support with mobile technologies.
Water
We provided technical assistance to develop the capacity of national and state institutions to implement the Integrated Water Resources Management project within the Cross River Basin and the arid Yobe basin in Nigeria. The project includes capacity building within the water institutions and user groups for surface and groundwater monitoring, water resources assessments and water resource modelling to identify potential conflicts.
Oil and gas
We've been bringing our energy expertise to a range of power projects throughout Nigeria. For a liquefied natural gas plant in Bonny Island, we're providing the full range of engineering design services.
One of our most prestigious power assignments in the country is the Cawthorne Channel Gas Gathering project, which aimed to help eliminate flaring in the region by recovering some 200M standard cubic feet per day of associated gas from oil fields. We carried out detailed engineering design, including preparing specifications and requisitions for all materials to be purchased by EPCC contractor, Daewoo. We also provided specialist technical support during construction and commissioning.
