Water

Sustainable water provision and management has always been vital to the country’s agricultural sector where one of our key assignments includes detailed design and construction supervision of the Kpong Irrigation Project. This involved planning the development of 3500ha of river downstream of the new Kpong Dam, rehabilitating an existing 2000ha irrigation scheme and developing 2000ha of new irrigated land.

Irrigation in GhanaWe provided detailed design and construction supervision for the Kpong Irrigation ProjectTo promote sustainability Mott MacDonald offered agricultural production advice from crop planning and husbandry through to advertising and marketing of produce. We also advised on farmer credit, cost recovery, private sector involvement, provision of agricultural extension services and farm machinery management.

Another project that’s delivered benefits – this time to the capital – was an urban improvement scheme featuring new drainage, rebuilt roads and landscaped streets that have transformed Accra’s business district. By providing easier access and a better environment the project has also brought economic, health and social benefits.

Power

Mott MacDonald has been the detailed designer for the second phase of the TEMA power plant development by GECAD Incorporated. The TEMA Osonor Power Plant is being developed to provide much needed power to Ghana’s national grid. The 126MW gas fired plant will sit next to the TEMA 1 plant, also designed by Mott MacDonald. The role includes advising on procurement and supervising construction.

Our specialists also played an important role in a major project to build the country’s first thermal power plant at Takoradi. The 300MW oil-fired combined cycle gas turbine power station has since been used as the foundation for introducing up to date standards of industrial environmental management.
