Nigeria
Among our key projects is the Education Sector
Support Programme in Nigeria, which aims to develop a system in
which every child in Nigeria is given the opportunity to receive a
basic standard of educationFor over 40 years Mott MacDonald
has been making significant contributions to development within
Nigeria’s water, energy, education and health sectors. Health
Strengthening government capacity in health policy planning and financing, improving systems to manage health services and developing better quality preventative and curative services for common health problems for the poor were just some of the outputs of our work for DFID as it aimed to make affordable services available to Nigeria’s general population.Partnerships for Transforming Health Systems (PATHS) was a £39 million programme of collaboration to develop partnerships for transforming health services. Operating in six states – Benue, Ekiti, Enugu, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Kano – from 2002 to 2008, PATHS aimed to achieve sustainable benefits in encouraging basic health services to function effectively and make them accessible to all.
Education
Our specialists at Cambridge Education have been involved in numerous projects to support Nigerian government and its commitment to transforming the country’s education system.Among our key assignments is the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN), which was established by Nigerian government in partnership with the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID).
ESSPIN intends to develop an education system in which every child in the country is given the opportunity to receive a basic standard of education. As part of our role as programme designer, we are assessing educational shortcomings and supporting government, teachers and the communities to create the enabling conditions in which an effective learning environment can be nurtured.
The work builds on the successful Capacity for Universal Basic Education project, completed in 2008, during which we worked with state and federal government to improve access to primary schooling.

Power
We have been bringing our energy expertise to a diverse range of power projects throughout Nigeria. For a liquefied natural gas plant in Bonny Island, Mott MacDonald is providing engineering design services under a three year engineering services contract. One of our most prestigious power projects in the country includes the Cawthorne Channel Gas Gathering project, which aimed to help with the elimination of flaring in the region by recovering some 200 million standard cubic feet per day of associated gas from the oil fields.
Our team carried out detailed engineering design, including preparing specifications and requisitions for all materials to be purchased by EPCC contractor, Daewoo. We also provided all specialist technical support as required by Daewoo during construction and commissioning.
Our work was honoured at the British Expertise Awards 2006 where we were given the Joint Large Consultancy Firm of the year award in the 'Tangible Visible Project category'.
