Zambia
We have been helping to manage and implement the
UK’s Department for International Development’s support for
strengthening the response of civil society organisations and
public sector bodies to HIV and AIDSFor nearly three decades
Mott MacDonald has been delivering innovative solutions to Zambia’s
health, education and water sectors. We have been supporting efforts by governments and aid organisations towards improving health and education, utilising the skills and expertise from both our health specialists in HLSP and our not-for-profit education arm, Cambridge Education.
Health
HLSP places a strong emphasis on building the capacity of Zambia’s government and authorities, civil society and private sector to provide leadership and effectively implement multi-sectoral responses to tackling HIV and AIDS.For example, we have been managing the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) support to the Strengthening the AIDS Response in Zambia (STARz) programme through collaboration with the National AIDS Council (NAC). STARz is aimed at reducing vulnerability to HIV infection and to the social and economic consequences of HIV and AIDS.
Education
Cambridge Education is a consortium partner of DFID’s Global School Partnership initiative, which helps teachers in the UK, Zambia and other African countries gain formal recognition for practical, work-based learning through forming global partnership links. It also builds their confidence, knowledge and skills to teach about global development issues.Water
One of our notable projects involved helping the Zambezi River Authority formulate an integrated water resources management strategy for the Zambezi River Basin. Our water and natural resources management consultant, Euroconsult Mott MacDonald, provided a range of services to help the client define measures in support of integrated water resources management and protection against floods, droughts, pollution and environmental degradation. This work is supported by the development of a shared water information system for the basin, a rapid assessment report highlighting current status of water availability and demands and most pressing issues a process of consultation with stakeholders at national and regional levels.
