Asia pacific proved a strong market for us in 2011, with growing economies providing exciting opportunities to showcase our skills and expertise on a variety of projects.

Among the many transport projects we’re working on is the Central Kowloon Route in Hong Kong which we’re designing and supervising construction for. Meanwhile, we’re continuing our 20 years’ involvement with Hong Kong International Airport, which started with design of the main passenger terminal.

We’re leading the joint venture that is designing the HK$9 billion Midfield Concourse, adding another 20 aircraft stands. We’re providing quality assurance during construction of a six lane expressway connecting Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai.

Strengthening mainland transport links, we’re supervising construction of four high speed rail lines in China, totalling 455km. In Singapore, we’re heavily involved in mass rapid transit development, designing six stations on the Downtown Line and one on the North South Line extension.

We’ve continued to build up our energy portfolio in the region. In Malaysia, we are providing tender documentation to Sarawak Energy Berhad for the engineering, procurement and construction of a 500kV overhead line in some of the most challenging jungle and mountainous terrain in the region. In Thailand we’re independent engineer for the 207MW Huaybong installation in Korat Province – south east Asia’s largest wind farm. In Vietnam our work on the Song Bung 4 hydropower scheme is ongoing, with river diversion – the first project milestone – reached on schedule.

Our varied building portfolio features design for a ¥2.36 billion mixed use development in Guilin, China, which will be the first of its kind in the city.

In Hong Kong we developed the master plan, in collaboration with our client and concept architect, for the HK$21.6 billion, 40 hectare West Kowloon Cultural District. In Singapore we’re providing multidisciplinary consultancy on the upgrade of nine primary schools for the Ministry of Education, while delivering mechanical, electrical and public health services on six other schools.

We completed our role on the Southwest Basic Education Project aimed at improving access to basic education in 27 of China’s poorest counties. Over five years, the number of girls attending school increased by 24%, 1000 schools introduced development planning and the number of female head teachers doubled.

We’re also involved in projects tackling water scarcity and quality. With climate change expected to impact water and natural resources in Thailand’s Mekong River Basin, we’ve been advising the government on adaptation measures.

With our work on Shanghai’s challenging ¥1.8 billion, four year western trunk sewer replacement now complete, we’re busy rehabilitating watercourses, a wastewater collection system and solid waste management in Nanning, south west China, funded by the Asian Development Bank.

Following many years of successful collaboration with oil giant Shell, we’re working on a framework agreement providing engineering, procurement and construction management services covering the Middle East and Asia.
