Protecting the Lower Dnister Delta Nature Park in Odessa Oblast
Delivering the East London line extension in the UK
Advising on the olympic-standard National velodrome in France
Assisting with planning and sustainability design in Russia
Our portfolio of projects in Europe spans both physical and social
infrastructure and we’re a leading player in the project finance
market.
Our expertise in rail systems, tunnelling, bridges, infrastructure finance and project management has enabled us to establish a position as one of the rail sector’s leading players. In 2011 we added the €220 million Bergen light rail extension in Norway to our portfolio. Our success in Bergen follows the selection of our proposal for Amsterdam’s new 20km long M55 IJmeer Line.
In 2011 we completed feasibility studies for 86km of extensions to Baku Metro, Azerbaijan. We're carrying out detailed design for twin bored tunnels on the city’s 24km Purple Line. Our world-renowned tunnelling expertise using the sequential excavation method has been deployed in the Czech Republic, on an extension of Prague’s metro system as well as on the Blanca highway tunnel.
EU funding aimed at improving connectivity and reducing the volume of freight carried by road is fuelling significant work in the heavy rail sector. We’re leading preliminary design, environmental impact and economic viability studies for an 88km rail line between Radomir and Gueshevo in Bulgaria. In Poland, we are designing an upgrade of 67km of mainline railway between Radom and Czachowek. And we’re supervising design and installation of European Train Control System signalling on 200km of the E65 mainline railway between Warsaw and Katowice.
We supervised construction of 70km of the motorway between the Bulgarian capital Sofia and the Black Sea port of Burgas and are now managing the country’s Transit Roads Project IV. We are developing an integrated city transport plan to improve sustainability and safety in Sofia. In St Petersburg, Russia, we’re technical advisor for the proposed €1.2 billion Orlovski Tunnel under the River Neva.
Since opening in 2010 our Paris and Istanbul offices have achieved rapid success in the continent’s public private finance market. Our team is established as the leading infrastructure finance consultancy in French-speaking Europe, with a portfolio including an 80,000 seat venue for the Fédération Française de Rugby, the iconic Nice Eco Stadium, and the Olympic-standard national velodrome at St Quentin, Paris.
Adding to our project finance track record in Turkey’s airport sector, we are now helping to develop the country’s first ever healthcare public private partnership (PPP), the €440 million Kayseri Integrated Health Campus. We’re supporting the winning consortium of YDA Insaat Sanayi Ticaret and INSO Sistemi Per Le Infrastrutture Sociali. This is the first of 28 planned PPP health campus projects in Turkey.
In 2011 we completed the second of two high-profile studies of energy security in the EU. Focusing on renewal of the world’s largest gas transmission network in Ukraine, our report highlighted the need for US$3.2 billion of investment. Our report secured US$310 million of emergency funding for reconstruction of the major pipeline from Urengoy in western Siberia to Uzhgorod in Ukraine. Strengthening gas supply in southern Europe, we provided conceptual and front end engineering designs for a giant 1.3 billion cu m gas storage facility in Lodi, northern Italy.
We continue to play a leading role in the privately financed renewable energy market, with wind turbine projects in Belgium, Greece, Poland, Spain and Turkey, and hydropower projects in Georgia and Turkey. In Poland, we are owner’s engineer on the 460MW Stalowa Wola combined cycle gas turbine power station and lenders’ technical advisor on three wind energy developments.
We’re advising on carbon capture and storage in Norway. In Georgia we are undertaking feasibility studies including environmental and social assessments, preparing the way for design and procurement of three hydropower installations on the Adjaristsqali River. We’re also acting as lender’s engineer on an 86MW hydropower project on the Paravani River, Georgia.
Anticipating future expansion of the Paks nuclear power station in Hungary, our nuclear engineering and tunnelling capabilities have been deployed on one of the world’s first underground storage facilities for radioactive waste at Bátaapáti.
Assisting with energy market reform in the Balkans, we have an ongoing role advising the International Finance Corporation during privatisation of Kosovo’s Power Distribution & Supply Company. We are developing stronger regulation and pricing for Turkey’s Energy Regulatory Authority.
We’re involved in two major projects geared to stimulating economic growth. For the Municipality of Tirana, Albania, we’re engaging citizens’ commissions, non-governmental organisations, the business community and the chamber of commerce to develop a shared vision for the city’s future development. In Romania, we’re helping the National Authority for Scientific Research implement and monitor an EU-funded research and development programme spanning IT and communications, health, agriculture, energy, environment, engineering materials, biotechnologies and security.
In mountainous central and eastern Europe, flooding presents a significant risk. For the government of Albania we’re preparing risk assessment and management strategies for the Buna and Drini Rivers, aimed at reducing economic and environmental losses.
Following a major project in Albania to evaluate the safety of 195 dams supplying irrigation, the World Bank appointed us to study the feasibility of constructing 14 new agricultural dams. Farming contributes 18% of Albania’s gross domestic product and provides 50% of the country’s employment. We will develop engineering designs for dams offering clear economic benefit.
We’re working to improve water quality while reducing the cost of operating and maintaining water and sewerage infrastructure, with projects in Sofia, Plodiv, Burgas and St Zagora in Bulgaria, and Covasna in Romania.
