We have worked on many large-scale and iconic projects including Um Al Nar power and desalination plants, Masdar City, phase one of Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Golf Estates, district cooling on Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jumeirah Monorail, the Emirates Float Glass Plant and Abu Dhabi’s Surface Transport Master Plan, to name a few.
We continue to work on several large scale projects including the provision of contract administration and site overview services on one of the world’s largest underground pumping stations, part of the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP) in Abu Dhabi.
We've also been appointed by the Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) to provide construction supervision services for the infrastructure of Lot 3 at South Shamkha – a mega housing development 50km from the city of Abu Dhabi. Our work includes supervision of 80km of road works, a 110km wastewater system and 90km of potable water networks, a power distribution system – including both primary and secondary substations – a storm water drainage network and provision for a telecommunications network.
Oil and gas
Mott MacDonald is project management consultant on mega projects like Takreer’s Ruwais Refinery Expansion, the 7-year North East Bab Phase III development project and ADMA-OPCOS’s Lower Zakum 100 MBD programme for which it won the Offshore Project of the Year at the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards in 2012.
Another key appointment was as engineer to Sharjah Pipeline Company (a BP JV Company) for a jet fuel storage facility in the Hamriyah Free Zone and a 41km pipeline linking the new development to Sharjah International Airport. The US$13 million project provided infrastructure to support the Emirate of Sharjah’s aviation industry. We successfully commissioned a Class III Petroleum storage terminal facility in Fujairah for Gulf Petrochem. The US$110 million project, for which we provided engineering and PMC services, was the UAE National Winner at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2013.
Transport
We were project manager for the 81km Ruwais Bypass, a key part in the Gulf road network. We’re also providing operational safety support and designing all bridges and road diversions as well as the diversion of overhead power lines on the first rail project in the UAE, Etihad Rail Phase 1.
Waste management
In Dubai we’re working with Dubai Municipality to develop a strategic integrated waste management master plan to the outlook period 2030. One of the key aims of the master plan is to achieve 70% recycling by 2025. Source segregation will be a key driver to achieve this ambitious target which will put Dubai at the forefront of sustainable waste management.
Education
Our education business in Abu Dhabi is also growing. A key success was the inspection of 149 private local and international schools throughout the region. We are also working closely with Aldar Academies to explore innovative approaches to Arabic teaching and learning.
Power
We’re helping realise new build nuclear capacity, including the Braka Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, where we’re providing technical review during design and build of the seawater cooling intake and outfall structures.
We also contributed to the Taweelah 50 MIGD reverse osmosis project – one of the largest reverse osmosis plants in the Gulf constituting a breakthrough in desalination technology.
In Fujairah, we also designed and supervised installation, testing and commissioning of three 400kV double circuit overhead transmission lines and also provided design review and site supervision for the 400/132kV Fujairah City Grid Station and surrounding 132/33kV substations, providing capacity for future large developments in the Fujairah area.
Buildings
In the buildings sector we were appointed to work on the 275,000 tonne Grain Reserve in Fujairah as the client’s structural, civil, geotechnical, MEP engineering and grain health technical advisors.
Our buildings team also have a long-standing relationship with Majid Al Futtaim since 1997 which continues to this day. We've been instrumental in providing structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and public health engineering services to the largest retail projects in the Middle East, such as Deira City Centre, Mall of the Emirates, Bahrain City Centre and Mirdif City Centre. We were also involved in the detail design and site supervision of the mechanical, electrical, public health, fire protection and structural engineering services relating to the refurbishment of rooms and suites as well as the extension to the Premium Leisure Club in the South Wing of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai.
We’re also providing the detailed design for the luxury Dubai Pearl development, which will provide a home for 9000 people and a workplace for a further 12,000.
