Mott MacDonald performed highway-rail crossing inventory work at over 500 crossings across North Carolina. In addition, Mott MacDonald reviewed the crossing inventory work performed by our sub-consultant for an additional 500 crossings.
Following the requirements of both the Federal Railroad Administration and the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Rail Division, we reviewed and updated the Railroad Crossing Inventory Record for highway-rail crossings. Additionally, we developed a detailed sketch of each location, obtained photos of each crossing, and used handheld GPS devices to obtain crossing coordinates.
- Pioneered the use of CAD sketch methods to provide electronic crossing sketches (allowing for more efficient updating in the future)
- Due to strict adherence to Mott MacDonald safety procedures, no incidents were reported throughout this project
- Trained staff in both rail inventory & safety procedures
- Completed project ahead of schedule
