Mott MacDonald celebrates as Le Mans stadium gets underway

Mott MacDonald’s role on Le Mans Stadium has come to fruition as the project has reached financial close and construction began a few months ago. The new stadium which will be home to the Le Mans premiership Football club (Le MUC72) will replace the old 16,500 seater Leon Bollee stadium which was no longer fit for purpose as it exposed most spectators to the elements and had poor amenities.

Mott MacDonald was appointed last year by Vinci to assist with business and technical consultancy services for a proposed 25,000 seat stadium project to overlook the famous Le Mans motor race track in France. Mott MacDonald acted as Lender’s Technical Adviser as well as provided an audit of the project business plan for the lenders.

The €100 million PPP was set-up as a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Maintain (DBFOM) project which includes a two-year construction phase as well as around 30 years of operations and maintenance. Experts in Mott MacDonald’s infrastructure finance team provided technical and risk analysis services supported by colleagues in Franklin + Andrews, Mott MacDonald’s sports business and cost advice arm, to provide projection figures on all kinds of aspects relating to the running of the stadium from football admission programmes to non football related events organisation.

Philippe Rapin, Mott MacDonald’s lead infrastructure finance expert on the project said, “We are delighted that Vinci chose us to help and that construction has begun. Mott MacDonald has an excellent track record in stadia projects and was also ranked as the number one global Infrastructure Finance Technical Adviser in 2008* . We hope that our part on this prestigious project reflects our position as the market leader."

Andrew Williams, chairman of Franklin + Andrews’ sports business added, “We’re providing cost consultancy on many of the world’s major new sports developments, we are very proud to have been selected to assist Vinci with this project at one of most prestigious centres for international sport.”
