Mott MacDonald acquires health consultancy Teamwork Management Services

Mott MacDonald has substantially strengthened its health sector capability with the acquisition of leading clinical management and business strategy consultancy Teamwork Management Services. The firm specialises in redesigning health services.

Teamwork and Mott MacDonald have worked together on a number of high profile projects. “This acquisition brings together two organisations sharing very similar values and objectives – it’s a progression of the partnership that we’ve developed,” said Martin Dove, director of Mott MacDonald’s UK health business.

He added that the deal signals Mott MacDonald’s commitment to the UK health sector. “It gives us the technical capability and the capacity to bid for much larger, more complex projects.”

Teamwork has a strong track record of achieving strategic, operational, organisational and management change in child and adult health services. Changes have helped healthcare clients successfully deliver improved working efficiency, value for money and, crucially, patient care.

New opportunities include providing children’s services across health, education and social services and offering wider service, such as patient and staff transport planning, policy research and evaluation, design of specialist health facilities, capital investment advice, telemedicine and carbon management. The greater expertise of the enlarged UK health business will also support HLSP, Mott MacDonald’s international development healthcare business.

Teamwork’s staff includes senior clinicians, clinical workforce planners, senior financial and general managers, health economists, information analysts and operational researchers. Teamwork director Debra Batchelor will head health consultancy services. Teamwork managing director John Batchelor becomes practice leader for the Group’s UK health business.

The company places strong emphasis on working with managers, clinicians and patient groups, providing detailed understanding of needs and yielding opportunity to challenge existing practices while providing support. Decision making draws on the firm’s in-depth knowledge of industry best practice.

Clients in the UK and Ireland include the Department of Health, the Health Service Executive, Strategic Health Authorities, Primary Care and NHS trusts, and hospitals. Teamwork also has private sector clients in the UK and internationally.

Teamwork’s expertise includes:

  • working with senior clinicians on new models of care and service
  • developing business cases for capital and revenue investment
  • producing feasibility studies on service change
  • designing strategies to shape the public health agenda and measuring their impact
  • providing medical and nursing workforce planning to ensure safe and sustainable services
