Mott MacDonald appointed lender’s independent engineer for £82 million five star hotel complex in India

Mott MacDonald has been appointed as lender’s independent engineer by Yes Bank for a five star hotel and serviced apartment development in Kolkata, India. The INR6600 million (£82 million) hotel complex is being developed by Fabworth Promoters Private Limited, East India's leading developer of large-scale real estate projects. The hotel will be managed by J W Marriott Group.

The luxurious development is strategically located on a 23,000 sq m plot of land on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass which connects the north and south of Kolkata. With over 936,000 sq m of floor space, the design includes one tower comprising 44 serviced apartments spread over 30 levels and another 27 floor hotel tower which contains 298 rooms.

Mott MacDonald is providing the lender with technical advice on the construction schedule, project cost, vendor contracts and statutory compliances up to project completion. The consultancy will regularly monitor construction work to inform the lender on time and cost over-run risks in compliance with environmental, safety and quality norms.

Vivekanand Kamath, Mott MacDonald’s project director said: “We have worked with Yes Bank on previous projects before and we’re delighted to have been selected once again. Kolkata is a fast growing city with an increasing demand for accommodation from business people or holidaymakers. Mott MacDonald has a strong track record in providing technical consultancy for both sponsors and financiers on major retail and leisure projects around the world.”

He added: “We have an excellent working relationship with Yes Bank and look forward to continuing to provide technical assistance to the lender by identifying mandatory statutory requirements, sealing project cost estimates and augmenting project monitoring tools. The project is required to conform to LEED gold certification.”

The project is due for commercial operation in the end of 2014.
