Transport
Among the many transport projects we’re working on in the region, we continue our 20 years’ involvement with Hong Kong International Airport, which started with design of the main passenger terminal. We designed two of the airport’s major expansion projects, the Midfield Concourse and the third runway, and provided planning, lighting and fire and life safety service for the Western Apron.
Metro systems are becoming increasingly important to support population and economic growth. We’re working to extend lines and build new systems in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
We provided quality assurance during construction of a six lane expressway connecting Hong Kong with Macau and the mainland city of Zhuhai – our team supervised the 30km Chinese section, including a major cable-stayed bridge, two man-made islands and a 6km long immersed tube tunnel across the Pearl River. Other projects include Marina Coastal Expressway in Singapore, Ngawi to Kertosono toll road in Indonesia and seven bridges on Highway 20 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Energy
In Thailand we were independent engineer and oversaw construction and operation for the 207MW Huaybong installation in Korat Province – south east Asia’s largest wind farm. We have engineered a number of power plants in Indonesia and Singapore.
We supported ExxonMobil in upgrading its Esso Port Dickson terminal at Klang Valley.
Hong Kong’s first sludge incinerator will generate power exported to the regional electricity grid.
Buildings
Our varied buildings portfolio features mechanical and electrical design and project managing building services works of the Star Vista, Singapore, and multidisciplinary services for the upgrade of nine primary schools for the Ministry of Education.
In Hong Kong we developed the master plan, with our client and concept architect, for the West Kowloon Cultural District. And we were one of three structural consultants for the main terminal building at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia.
Water
We're helping tackle water scarcity and quality. With climate change impacting water and natural resources in Thailand’s Mekong River Basin, we advised the government on adaptation measures. In China, our study into decentralised wastewater treatment with effluent reuse investigated alternative approaches to centralised sewerage for suburban and semi rural locations.
We were independent consultant for Hong Kong’s first sludge incinerator, at the time, the world’s largest. The plant is capable of processing 2000 tonnes of sludge per day, with just 10% of the residue being disposed of in landfill.
Sustainable management of surface and groundwater is critical to Indonesia’s economic development and food security. In Bandung, we prepared a water supply master plan which includes a management plan for groundwater catchment and identifying reforms needed to strengthen the water supply system.
Health and education
Through our management of the Health Resource Facility for Australia’s Aid Programme (HRF) we work throughout Asia Pacific providing health and HIV expertise. Since its inception in 2009, the HRF has contributed to stronger policies in health, facilitated some of Australia’s strategic partnerships with donors and recipient countries and helped build the capacity of regions to use aid money more effectively. Our health specialists also helped to reduce the spread of HIV associated with drug use among men and women in South East Asia and China through the Australian-funded HIV/AIDS Asia Regional Programme.
In Indonesia, we promote education sector-wide policy dialogue and institutional and organisational reform through the Education Sector Analytical Capacity Development Partnership framework. Our work includes an early childhood development strategy, a study on teacher absenteeism and a financial study of secondary education. In China, we spent ten years supporting efforts to improve access to and quality of basic education for disadvantaged children. We also supported efforts to strengthen China’s capacity in technical and vocational education and training.
Oil and gas
We worked with Shell on a framework agreement providing engineering, procurement and construction management services covering the Middle East and Asia. We were responsible for delivering services to terminals operated by Shell Distribution across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
We also provided a feasibility study for a pipeline grid to connect consumers and suppliers on Jurong Island, Singapore's industrial hub.
