Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
I decided to join Mott MacDonald because I wanted to be a part of an organisation that puts key values such as ethics, sustainability and employee satisfaction first as well as being a successful business. I was keen to get involved in a diverse range of projects and I felt that in Mott MacDonald there would always be something to keep me interested.
What is the best thing about your role?
For me the best thing about my role is the people that I work with, both in my office and across the wider organisation. There is a good atmosphere that promotes professional excellence and job satisfaction.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
I have found Mott MacDonald’s culture to be quite distinct from that at other consultancies, with a greater level of integrated working across units and divisions. The business has a strong commitment to its values and to its employees.
How do you feel your career has progressed while working at Mott MacDonald?
In the time that I have been with the company, I have been able to develop my skills and experience considerably through taking on more responsibility and taking up opportunities to work on diverse projects. The opportunities to work internationally have been particularly interesting, including public transport work in Tbilisi, Georgia, spectator transport for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia and now a relocation to Auckland, New Zealand.
How would you describe the vision and values of Mott MacDonald?
Mott MacDonald’s values place a strong emphasis on ensuring that we work in a way that is ethical, sustainable and safe. These support the vision of continuing to grow the business and our professional reputation.
What is your favourite past time?
My favourite pastime is experiencing the beauty of the natural world, whether it is cycling in the countryside, visiting the glaciers of Iceland and the dunes of the Sahara or going to the zoo with my children.
If you could have lunch with any three people who would they be and why?
Pierre de Fermat (mathematician) so that I can find out how he proved his last theorem. Gerald Durrell (naturalist) for entertaining wildlife stories and BB King (blues musician) for some all-round good conversation.
What inspires you about your work?
What ultimately inspires me about my work is trying to make life better for people. Transport is important for everyone and by working to make transport faster, more affordable, safer and more sustainable I can help people to live their lives.
