What attracted you to apply for a role with us?
Mott MacDonald has a very good reputation amongst engineering students. The diverse business offers a lot of development opportunities. Plus, the role I applied for was a perfect fit for my abilities.
How did you find the recruitment process?
It was very straight forward. Everyone I interacted with was very positive and helpful.
What are the three things that make you look forward to coming into work each day?
My brilliant colleagues, our interesting projects and working with new people every day.
What’s your team like?
We are a very small team interacting with different parts of the business. Although we have a lot to do and things don’t always go to plan, we stay (nearly) always positive and take time for a chat to see how the other is doing.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Getting to work with some of the technical leaders at Mott MacDonald, learning from them and seeing our amazing capabilities in digital delivery.
How has your career progressed since joining?
I have found my passion for using digital technology to enable our technical experts to do what they do best. I have led internal projects, initiatives and I’m able to work very independently. Now I’m focusing on developing my project management skills.
How long have you worked for us, and what has been your proudest achievement to date?
I have been working at Mott MacDonald for nearly three years. In my previous role, I designed new ways of raising awareness of capabilities internally and better ways to share our technical excellence.
One of the initiatives is Excellence Week, which has just run for the third time. Thousands of colleagues join in with the activities, sharing knowledge and learning new things. It’s amazing to see an idea come to life and become so successful.
How has digital technology helped in your day-to-day role?
Mott MacDonald’s digital technology enables me to work remotely either from home or from any of our offices around the world. I have synchronised most of our team documents from SharePoint to my machine which enables me to work offline. My role is all about collaboration and the digital technology that we use enables me to work with colleagues around the globe.
What excites you most about the developments in digital technologies?
The most exciting thing I have seen lately is how we’ll be able to use virtual reality and visualisation tools to better communicate with our clients and partners on projects. If we adopt advanced modelling and possibilities to showcase these models, it will open new ways of communicating with stakeholders, engaging with clients and checking inputs from different parts of the project team.
What is your favourite pastime?
I love exploring. Either the English countryside or neighbouring towns around us or travelling to other countries. It’s best not to rush an exploration, so the best ways to travel for me are by train or bike.
Do you have a hidden talent?
Does touching your nose with your tongue count as a talent?
