Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
I already had experience in the consultancy industry but I knew of Mott MacDonald’s industry leading reputation. For me, deciding to join Mott MacDonald was about joining a group of people who were working on noteworthy projects.
What is the best thing about your role?
The best thing about my role is working with and learning from a range of global experts as well as other enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable colleagues. I experience seasons in my role; working on one project every day for a few months, juggling several projects at one time, or focusing on how to demonstrate our capability to carry out future projects to our prospective clients. Each season offers something different and the variety keeps work interesting.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
Friendly, diverse, determined and collaborative.
What have you found out about Mott MacDonald since you joined?
I’ve found that Mott MacDonald develops its people through a can-do attitude. Staff are encouraged to take on responsibility as much as possible. Focusing on areas of expertise is expected, but trying new fields and areas of nuance is encouraged. Among my colleagues, a culture of taking calculated risks is fostered.
How many years have you worked for Mott MacDonald, and what has been your proudest achievement to date?
I’ve worked at Mott MacDonald for two years. My proudest moment has been in the preparation of a report that resulted in our recommendations for a procurement of power generation infrastructure being accepted by our client, an African government utility. The implications of the project can already be felt tangibly in the country.
What has been your favourite Mott MacDonald social event?
I watched England U21’s 3-1 victory over Switzerland with some colleagues from the Brighton office at Brighton and Hove Albion's stadium. Watching Duncan Watmore come off the bench and turn the game with a man-of-the-match 15 minute super-sub performance was fantastic.
Where is your favourite place?
Mongonissi is on the Southern tip of the Greek island of Paxos. I went there as a teenager and one morning, I got up very early and watched the sunrise whilst sitting on the beach.
What inspires you at work?
Colleagues who are passionate about their work, but also people that are ethical and have integrity. People that want the best for their colleagues.
