Why did you choose your profession?
I like the opportunities in Oil and Gas because the natural gas industry is very important to reducing greenhouse gases. Natural gas provides a clean fuel for heating in our homes, as well as cleaner power generation when replacing coal-fired power plants.
Why did you decide to join?
I joined Mott MacDonald because I saw the value that the company places on each employee. Working with a great team where I am seen as a valuable resource motivates me to work hard for the success of the company.
How have you been supported during your career development?
I have been supported by good managers and technical mentors. I am very lucky to have a strong technical skill set because of the time invested in my career development by my mentors. My managers have helped to guide me along my path of career advancement within the company.
What inspires you about your work?
Every project that I work on is unique and has its own challenges. There is always a problem to be solved or a solution to be developed. I try to think how I can improve upon the solutions from the previous projects.
What is the coolest project you’ve worked on?
One of the most interesting projects that I have worked on is the PennEast Pipeline project. This project crosses multiple states, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey, to provide natural gas to the northeast United States. This project has a lot of different aspects that require many teams — for meter/regulator station design, compressor station design, launcher/receiver design, pipeline design, and procurement — with close coordination between each team.
How would you describe your role and responsibilities to friends or family?
I tell my friends and family that I design a lot of infrastructure for the natural gas industry. On the West Coast, natural gas infrastructure is quite prevalent, so I help clients upgrade and maintain their aging infrastructure.
What groups / clubs are you involved with?
I was selected to be a member of the Early Career Professionals Steering Committee, which gave me the opportunity to directly impact the direction of the company through our recommendations. I have also had the opportunity to assist some of the knowledge centers within the Oil and Gas unit by reviewing and developing standard technical specifications.
What advice would you give a student who is about to graduate from college/university?
Keep your mind and options open as you pursue a career. It is okay that you don’t know exactly what you want to do as you complete your degree. One reason I selected mechanical engineering for my degree was the wide variety of jobs within mechanical engineering that would be available to me.
What is your favorite thing about working for Mott MacDonald?
I really enjoy the opportunities to workshare across many different offices. This allows us to easily utilize team members with very specific expertise that may be needed on a project, and it gives me the opportunity to get to know more of my colleagues.
What is a random fact about you?
I earned my Eagle Scout award. I think this has helped me work well in and manage technical teams at work.
