What attracted you to join our team? And what do you value most about it?
I owned my own engineering firm and was looking for an exit strategy. Once I decided to sell to a larger firm, I started looking for an organisation that had a culture that aligned with mine. That was ten years ago and I’m still working here, because they treat me well and I feel like I have a voice in the direction of the company. Having a voice in our future is what I value the most.
What cross-transferable skills do you think are important within engineering?
Communication skills are equally as important as engineering skills. You can have great ideas or design a great project, but if you cannot communicate it to your client you open yourself up to failure.
In your experience, what are the benefits of working in engineering?
Engineering is such a broad field. It’s not just for your stereotypical PPE wearing male. It offers something for everyone. No matter what your skill set, there is a place for you in engineering. I started my career as a roadway design engineer and moved into management. My role has allowed me the opportunity to design small and large projects, meet with the public, work with public officials, manage projects and lead people. I love it all!
