Why did you choose to join Mott MacDonald?
I enjoy the idea of seeking out new opportunities and challenges as part of my career progression, so having previously worked for mainly smaller companies, I thought a large company like Mott MacDonald would provide a different and diverse experience. I also wanted to move from architecture into project management.
What is the best thing about your job/role?
I have very nice colleagues and I enjoy the quick pace of construction project work, no day is the same.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
Hardworking and friendly – my colleagues are all very professional and I’ve really enjoyed some good times out over the summer with work.
What project are you currently working on?
A mix of internal jobs and public sector jobs. We have just completed the package of work for the new Mott MacDonald Cambridge office fit-out which is being constructed in the next 2 years; secondly I work with London Borough of Southwark, managing two projects - providing housing for elderly with dementia and a day care centre for elderly with dementia. Finally I am helping Mott MacDonald procurement with office furniture, desk specification and tenders to provide the company with a strategy to meet new office standards.
Have you been involved in any charities or done any volunteer work, please explain your involvement?
Working for Mott MacDonald I have only barely got involved with Engineers Without Borders, however previously as an architect I worked on post-earthquake disaster relief planning - designing housing and schools in India (mud brick construction) and maintenance of housing in Bolivia and in London, designing and constructing a temporary home for homeless people to spend their Christmas and New Year in.
What would your perfect day consist of?
A full day of running or walking trails in beautiful surroundings with good company, eating amazing food with same good company - and to finish the day, a fat book, popcorn and copious amounts of sleep (in freshly laundered sheets) would make me a very happy person.
