Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
After graduating I was planning to join a company with a great reputation, that offered diverse opportunities to develop my interests in transport and at the same time had a supportive work culture. As a global, multidisciplinary company Mott MacDonald offers the opportunity to work in many sectors with different offices and great team.
What is the best thing about your role?
It is the diversity and exposure I get in working with the transport team. I have managed to get experience in public transport planning, urban transport projects and on applying GIS analysis to a wide range of transportation projects, including transport modelling, bus rapid transit scheme appraisal. It’s about making the most of learning all the time when you have the opportunity with support from the management.
What project are you currently working on?
The current project I am working on is the ‘Sustainable Urban Transport Project’ in India, which is a great project to work on and with each passing day more knowledge is gained. It is providing me with the experience to work with various organisations (Government and Private) at the same time, thus helping me gain wide experience on urban transport in India. This project also allows me to provide client support in client offices giving me the opportunity to get exposure on working with various city development authorities and understand government working.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
Mott MacDonald is like a one big family with all the members spread across the world. Although the members may not meet each other on day to day basis, they are well connected through projects, social events, fund raising events, competitions, and discussion groups. There is lot of support and encouragement from the entire group. If you require any support, any expert in the sector can be reached out to for help through common platforms. We get to learn a lot, share our ideas in order to support and guide each other.
How many years have you worked for Mott MacDonald, and what has been your proudest achievement to date?
I have worked with Mott MacDonald for more than seven years. Spent an amazing 3 years with Mott MacDonald in Leeds and more than four years in Noida/Delhi. Apart from having the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects and presenting them at various events, my proudest achievement was winning the group Sustainability Award in 2014. This was only possible with the support of my team members. Participating for the award competition gave me an opportunity to present the project we are working on to the entire group. The award is dedicated to my Noida office team and the entire India team.
What has been your favourite Mott MacDonald social event?
There are many events that I have enjoyed. My favourite one has to be the graduate event in New York in June 2008. I won the graduate competition in the UK and got the chance to travel to New York! It was a superb opportunity to meet the board members, interact with fellow colleagues from USA & Canada.
Where is your favourite place?
Kerala, India. It is indeed God’s own country. Not only is Kerala is blessed with abundant natural beauty, but the people are equally kind. Any part of the state you travel to, you would find peace and beauty. Be it the backwaters of Alleppy, tea plantations of Munnar or sunset at Fort Kochi.
