Supporting wind energy for 1.5 million homes in Taiwan
Mott MacDonald Taiwan has been influential in the country’s wind energy industry since it first developed – and has recently been appointed the owner’s engineer for a new offshore wind farm that could power up to 1.55 million houses in Taiwan.
The Hai Long offshore wind farm will be located 50-70 km from the shore and generate 1GW of renewable energy. Renewable energy engineers and analysts with Mott MacDonald will support several different work streams such as energy yield assessment, geotechnical investigations, grid connectivity, with a special focus on sourcing equipment and materials from localised suppliers.
Taiwan High Speed Rail
The two biggest cities of Taiwan sit at opposite ends of the west coast – the capital Taipei in the north and city of Kaohsiung in the south. The proposed Taiwan High Speed Rail project spanned 375km and created an 11 stop journey that represented the country’s most vital rail link. At the time of its development, it was among the world’s largest privately funded transport schemes.
Mott MacDonald led a joint venture on a six-year contract as independent checking and site engineer on the Taiwan High Speed Rail project. This ensured that this vital infrastructure could start and continue safely providing users with access to the rest of the country.
