Mott MacDonald hires YJ KIM to head up data science for Moata
Mott MacDonald has appointed YJ Kim as data science lead for its Moata platform. She will head an expanding team of data professionals in solving complex infrastructure problems through the application of data science. YJ will play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and delivering machine learning-based projects across all sectors in the business.
YJ worked mostly in the financial services sector and in start-up environments since completing a PhD in Astrophysics. Most recently she led data-driven social initiatives at Visa Inc, to help the UK government and public sector boost the high street economy, for which she received an innovation award. She has also worked on multi-million-dollar fraud detection models as well as anomaly detection models for merchant performance.
Data without science is nothing. As we continue to produce and collect more data about infrastructure, advanced analytics will transform our industry. Application of data science, specifically machine learning and artificial intelligence, in the construction and engineering sector is currently valued at over $500M USD and is expected to grow more than 35% year-on-year over the next three years (source: Markets and Markets). Having a strong data science capability will become essential as we transition into a data driven industry of the future.
YJ said, “I am looking forward to working with colleagues to create a strong data science community and bring the very best innovation to our clients.”
