Opportunity
Fishermen’s Energy, a company founded by commercial fishermen, seeks to develop offshore wind generation alongside the local fishing industry. Its stated goal goal is to “turn Atlantic coastal waters into an unmatched source of clean energy, while maintaining a vibrant commercial fishing industry.”
Solution
Mott MacDonald is providing multidisciplinary services for this 25-megawatt offshore wind farm demonstration project. Our services include support for engineering, contracts and procurement, scheduling and planning, and document management.
Mott MacDonald delivered considerable savings in time and cost in three main areas:
- Mott MacDonald identified flaws in the original foundation jacket design and offered a better solution.
- Geotechnical analysis allowed the use of less material in the foundation.
- Mott MacDonald power systems analysts helped to resolve serious grid network compliance issues.
Outcome
According to Fishermen’s Energy, the project “has been documented to create almost 400 jobs and bring $150 million of investment into New Jersey all at a cost of less than a dollar a year for an average electric customer.”
As the company states, “Fishermen’s Energy intends to harvest the wind and the sea, side by side, in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.”
