Mott MacDonald has bolstered its ports and marine practice in North America with the appointment of Andrew Cairns as vice president and North American ports practice leader. Cairns will be based at Mott MacDonald’s corporate headquarters in Iselin, New Jersey, and will work closely with other regional offices throughout North America.
Andrew Cairns is a professional engineer and diplomate in port engineering with over 30 years of experience in the ports and marine field. He began his engineering career as a diver in New York Harbor, inspecting piers and wharves. Since then he has worked on port planning, assessment, and design projects at sites across the US, Canada, Caribbean, Latin America, Asia, and Middle East.
As a board member of the Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers, Cairns identifies and recognizes leading practitioners who have excelled in their discipline of engineering. He is past president of the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute Board of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and a past chair of the ASCE Ports and Harbor committee.
“We will continue to invest in the growing ports and marine engineering market,” stated Nick DeNichilo, President and CEO of Mott MacDonald in North America. “Our ports practice is positioned to serve our clients as they revitalize their assets and prepare for redevelopment of their waterfront assets.”
