Opportunity
The Galore Creek Mine Development Project in British Columbia will access one of the biggest porphyry copper deposits in North America.
Set in remote and glacier-covered mountain terrain, the mine site can only be reached by air.
Solution
Mott MacDonald was retained to design a tunnel capable of allowing single-lane vehicle access capable of moving large open-pit mining equipment to the site. The tunnel would contain an access road, mine services, and a large-capacity conveyor during operations.
Outcome
With the support of helicopters, Mott MacDonald mapped outcrops and performed deep borings. We provided geological evaluations, tunnel design, risk assessment, constructability review, cost estimating, and scheduling for the project.
