Opportunity
Mott MacDonald is experienced in the full range of pumping infrastructure, with particular strength in the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing facilities.
Solution
The Passaic Valley Water Commission retained us to provide professional engineering services for a pump station that would complete a major regional water supply project, serving many communities in northern New Jersey.
The Morris County Connection Pump Station was designed to transfer finished water from clearwells at the Commission’s Little Falls Water Treatment Plant into a 36-inch-diameter (0.9 meters) regional pipeline.
Outcome
Hydraulics and surge control were complicated by the profile of the pipeline, which rose over a mountaintop before descending again. A combination pressure-reducing and back-pressure-sustaining control valve station controlled the hydraulic gradeline in the pipeline.
