Opportunity
Facilities that draw from surface water rather than groundwater face special issues, including stormwater runoff and contamination from other natural and manmade sources.
Solution
For more than 60 years, Mott MacDonald has served the City of New Brunswick in New Jersey with engineering consulting services. Our master planning documents and detailed plans have enabled the City to improve its systems while maintaining service without interruption.
Outcome
Over many years, major upgrades have been designed to improve raw and finished water pumping stations, water storage tanks, gravity filters and distribution/transmission facilities. New facility designs have included a chemical storage and feed facility and emergency high-lift pump station.
More recently, we designed an immersed membrane treatment train to replace existing pressure filters. With an initial capacity of 12 million gallons (45 million liters) per day, the treatment train can be doubled to meet increased demand.
