Project delivery technology is changing rapidly. BIM can promote collaboration on complex design challenges and enhance the visualization of projects for stakeholders including the owner’s engineering and operations staff, regulatory reviewers, and equipment suppliers.
For New Jersey American Water’s Ranney Station Water Treatment Plant, BIM was a powerful collaboration tool in the development of the project design. The BIM model was used during all project design workshops, and provided a platform for system operations to contribute their operations experience.
This approach allowed for design layouts that improved the day-to-day operations of the facility. The BIM model was also used to store operations and maintenance manuals, and provided a database for maintenance recordkeeping.
