Our building consultats help clients control noise, reverberation, and vibration to enhance user comfort and building performance. We understand the influence of lighting on shopping behavior, and our lighting experts are advancing technology to develop ever-imaginative uses for design: for instance, illuminating ceilings for dramatic effect.
Our dedicated team of environmental ergonomists considers people’s needs and behaviors in a building. Our fire engineers provide strategies to tackle the reaction of buildings and people to fire, enabling safe evacuation.
Our ability to interpret sustainability policy, which we’ve often helped shape, means we see the big picture and cut through issues to deliver the right planning solutions. Our informed approach means we can respond to mechanical and electrical solutions that match or exceed the stakeholders’ sustainability aspirations.
Our commissions extend from feasibility studies and tender designs to detailed design and construction supervision. Our experience in new developments and refurbishment, with the wealth of disciplines we cover, enables us to provide a comprehensive service.
Bahrain City Centre Mall
Mott MacDonald acted as lead consultant and engineer for this £200 million mall. We opted for extensive use of precast concrete elements to ensure construction was achieved on schedule. The building’s energy efficiency was enhanced by heat reclamation on the central fresh-air extract plant.
Mall of the Emirates
To meet a fast-track construction program, our project team devised various value engineering ideas during the design stage. One innovative approach saw us adopting mass concrete foundations instead of traditional piled foundations: imaginatively combining basic design principles with lower-cost, locally available raw materials to save time and money.
Mirdif City Centre Mall
Working with RTKL and Holfords Architects, Mott MacDonald was responsible for structural engineering design and site supervision of the structural works during construction. Long-span lightweight steel roof trusses provided large column-free spaces, allowing enhanced air circulation and a fresher environment.
The mixed-use building in Singapore meets world-class acoustic, environmental, comfort, and fire safety standards. We helped achieve environmental efficiencies including the minimization of air conditioning, a 10% energy saving from the use of motion sensors for lighting activation, maximization of daylighting, plus the use of environmentally friendly materials. Building services were highlighted by Singapore’s Building & Construction Authority when awarding the building a Green Mark Gold Award for sustainability.
