Why did you choose to join Mott MacDonald?
The reason why I choose to work at Mott MacDonald is because I was offered a life time opportunity that I thought was impossible to decline.
The job position was to be a Drafting Apprentice (but there’s nothing so exciting about drafting), but at Mott MacDonald they offered me more than just drafting, I was given an opportunity of becoming an Engineer. I also have the choice to work in not one but many different engineering fields and the best part was that my studies are paid for and that I would not have a debt. Mott MacDonald is not just based in Australia but is a worldwide company, so I could see myself taking on an opportunity to work around the world within the company.
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that not only I develop my skills in hydraulics services, but I also develop many other skills in other fields in the office and out of office. I have had an opportunity to go on a site visit of a project that I have worked on, and it is amazing to see what I have drawn is actually being built! The other thing about my job is I have also developed as skill to provide technical help with computers in the office. Being able to communicate and work with many people in different fields and get experience from them. I am not limited to the resources that Mott MacDonald has to offer but rather I am trying my best to utilize the resources that the company has to offer to progress my career further than I have ever imagined.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
One of the biggest things at Mott MacDonald is that they value safety! I find that working at Mott MacDonald it has been very encouraging as they have a great team providing positive support, making me to drive harder and want to be pushing the envelope on my skills and knowledge. I also found that Mott MacDonald practices low carbon emissions by using Carbon Neutral or recyclable materials. Being able to connect to people all around the world is pretty awesome as we have forums, a messaging system where everyone is connected.
How has your career developed at Mott MacDonald?
My career has developed beyond what I thought I could do. I just recently had a chat with a friend who is studying the same field but not working at any company, I compared myself with him and found that, I have developed greater and deeper understanding of the same area of studies and practical understanding than he has! Having the opportunity to study and apply what you have study at work is a huge career development compared to someone who is just studying.
Have you been involved in any charities or done any volunteer work?
I do voluntary work weekly being one of Jehovah Witnesses, Charity work I will be involved or have been is Raising people’s awareness on MS(multiple sclerosis) I am about to participate in a cycling event from Sydney to Wollongong (95km), and Seven Bridges walk Cancer Council Fundraising (27km).
If you were to live anywhere, where would it be?
If I had an opportunity to live anywhere, it would be in a developing country, the ability to make use of my skills and knowledge to help provide the need of clean drinkable water would be the most satisfying feeling anyone could ever have.
