India / Industry / Principal engineer

Kamran Shaikh

I visited Tashi Point in September 2014 where you can see India's tallest mountain, Kanchan Ganga if the weather is clear. Unfortunately, it wasn't great that day but it was still impressive. It is located in the Sikkim Estate, India.

Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?

I joined Mott MacDonald because of its work in the field of engineering consultancy and because of the remarkable difference it is making through its innovative ideas. Mott MacDonald also provides such a challenging working environment which enhances the capability and knowledge of engineers which extremely rewarding.

What is the best thing about your role?

The diversity of the work I do means every day is different. I love making and implementing my constructive views and ideas on the projects and receiving support from my seniors.

How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?

It is very professional and friendly. I can contact anybody at any given time regardless of their level and seniority knowing that I will be supported and encouraged in all that I do.

What has been your most memorable project?

I have worked for Mott MacDonald for the last seven years and worked on so many different projects. The “Safety Enhancement -Agni-II” project for Synginta limited in Goa, India was by far my most memorable project. My role was to enhance the fire safety of an almost 35 year old chemical plant which had a high hazardous chemical spread on more than 35 acres of land. We had been given a challenging design of a modern fire safety system which would extract the contaminated water into a collection tank before sending it to ETP directly during an emergency.

What has been your favourite Mott MacDonald social event?

I enjoy the picnics that are organised by Mott MacDonald.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what are the five things that you would want to have with you?

A Tent

Water – I could re-fill the bottle whenever I found more water
