Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
I had both family and friends who worked for Mott MacDonald, and recommended them as an employer. When a role came up five years ago that matched my skills I decided to apply. I have to say looking back now I’m very glad that I did. It was one of the best career decisions I’ve made.
What is the best thing about your role?
While there are lots of things I enjoy about my current role, I’d have to say one of the best things is the team of people that I get to work with. Everybody works extremely hard and the team pull together when required. I also really enjoy the variety of my role and the exposure to many different areas of our business.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
In my experience Mott MacDonald is a company that really cares about its staff. I work in an environment that is professional and driven to achieve high quality outputs, yet supportive and caring. My own goals are considered important as are those of the business.
How has your career developed at Mott MacDonald?
I joined Mott MacDonald five years ago in an administrative role. I spent my time supporting project managers with logistical arrangements, contracting of sub-consultants and formatting project documents. My previous experience in finance allowed me to progress further, and I took on work relating to the budgeting and invoicing of projects. Before long I was managing my own small projects and working on commercial documents for our new tenders. I also spent time supporting the divisional manager with the finance reporting and taking a general oversight of the many projects we were working on. In 2014 I took on the role of operations manager – which primarily involved looking after the functions performed by our operations support team, but included a responsibility for the divisions and assistance in financial, commercial, recruitment and training needs when necessary. In 2016 I moved into the role of assistant commercial director for the International Education Portfolio; which means my focus is now the commercial tendering for new work and managing the commercial risks of our existing portfolio of projects.
When you’re not in the office where can you be found?
When I’m not at work I spend time enjoying life at home with my husband and our five children. As you might imagine it’s a busy schedule of football, swimming, dance and parties! But our favourite family activity is ‘movie night’ (with plenty of popcorn)!
What is a random fact about you?
I was once a European Tae-Kwon Do champion!
