Why did you choose to join Mott MacDonald?

I’d worked with Mott MacDonald in my previous job as Sustainability project manager, looking at the impact of growing tourism on the Cape Verde Islands. I was aware of the company’s environmental expertise and good reputation in this field. So I welcomed the opportunity to join the Mott MacDonald team.

What is the best thing about your job?

The ability to influence projects and deliver positive outcomes - which leads to job satisfaction and rewards all round. I also enjoy the variety of work, as the scope for applying sustainability to the delivery of a project or programme is limitless. I can work for different clients around the world, each with different needs and stage of sustainability maturity.

How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?

A nurturing knowledge organisation; offering training, technical and management support to those who need it. Although Mott MacDonald is known for producing industry-leading technical papers, I feel that they are modest about promoting such achievements.

What has been your most memorable project?

I guess memorable for a good reason! I would mention ‘Factory of the Future’ which I helped deliver in 2008. The project was a good demonstration of a ‘state-of the art’ manufacturing facility which was created by Boeing and Rolls-Royce working with the University of Sheffield to deliver leading edge renewable energy design solutions. The project was selected for a Queen’s Anniversary Prize, and was opened by Prince Andrew in 2009.

What has been your favourite Mott MacDonald social event?

Delivering Sustainability week with my colleagues in June 2013. It was great working with colleagues from different units and on project teams (Heathrow Airport) to plan a week of fun events, charity bake-offs, book exchanges and educational webinars on Sustainability. The event raised our profile of sustainability and over £4,000 of funds which were donated to Oxfam as well as funds for the Woodland Trust. Thanks for all your help folks!

If you could have any super power what would it be?

To create an infinite supply of clean drinking water for everyone around the world – oh, and to have an infinite supply of cakes and never get fat eating them!
