Mott MacDonald has an entrepreneurial culture in which people have ownership over their work and are encouraged to grow the business

Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?

I decided to join Mott MacDonald earlier this year after finishing my MBA and working abroad in the UK and China. I was looking for an opportunity to get into the infrastructure advisory sector and a friend in the industry introduced me to Mott MacDonald. The more I learned about the company and met the team, the more I realized that it was the type of place that I wanted to work at.

What is the best thing about your role?

The best thing about my role is the diversity of the work and the learning opportunities – in the Infrastructure Finance team, we work for both public and private side clients, and on projects from the procurement phase right through to the operational term.

How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?

We work in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment with people that share the same work ethic and want to contribute to the company’s growth.

What have you found out about Mott MacDonald since you joined?

The ease at which we work across borders – in just six months, I’ve been involved in business development activities with co-workers from the UK, US, Europe, Africa and Asia and I’m impressed at how connected and approachable everyone is.

What makes Mott MacDonald stand out from other companies?

For a large company, Mott MacDonald has an entrepreneurial culture in which people have ownership over their work and are encouraged to grow the business. I’m not sure of many other companies of this size that offer the same opportunity.

What is your favourite pastime?

My favourite pastime is cycling. I cycle to work and just last year got into road biking after inhering my sister’s bike when she moved away. It quickly turned into a favourite pastime and most summer weekends you can find me cycling on the country roads just north of the city.

What is your hidden talent?

Definitely languages. I speak French, conversational Chinese, and I am now learning Spanish. I enjoy learning new languages and have been fortunate to have lived and worked internationally.

What inspires you at work?

Working with great people that share the same drive to make an impact on our clients, as well as the variety (and challenge!) of the work.
