Water
We provided technical assistance to Ghana Water Company Ltd. for the rehabilitation and expansion of water systems across 10 regions of Ghana. We worked to determine and establish the full range of activities, investments, and other measures needed to ensure the safety of dams and reliability of water sources. We also submitted proposals for the establishment of a National Dam Safety Unit to harmonize and enforce dam safety guidelines and inspection practices.
Another project that has delivered benefits was an urban improvement project featuring new drainage, rebuilt roads, and landscaped streets that have transformed Accra’s business district. By providing easier access and a better environment, the project has brought economic, health, and social benefits.
Power
Mott MacDonald was detailed designer for two 126-megawatt gas-fired power plants at Tema, which provide much-needed power to Ghana’s national grid. Our role includes advising on procurement and technical support throughout construction. Our contribution has continued during operation, and we recently completed a technical study for the conversion of the two open-cycle power plants to a single combined-cycle plant.
