Structural design engineer

Job Profile

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Structures team in Croydon and make a positive contribution to the current team. We are looking for a Chartered or near Chartered Structural Engineer with leadership potential to work with us on some of our prestigious projects based both in the UK and overseas.

Job Description

The successful candidates will have: day to day structural technical involvement working with the project team and reporting to a senior member of staff.
You will be responsible for:
- Interpreting and delivering the structural brief
- Technical content of projects
- Supporting in the planning and programming of technical delivery
- Understanding the resource requirements for the project and managing Junior staff
- Identification and management of technical risks
- Maintaining and developing a comprehensive knowledge of current technical engineering codes
- Support in progressing the structural teams’ technical ability

Candidate Specification

Essential qualifications and experience:
- BEng & MSc or MEng in structural or civil engineering – Graduate membership of Institute of Structural (preferred) or Civil Engineers, and actively working towards chartership.
- Experience of structural design across of building sectors
- Recent experience using Eurocodes
- Successfully contributed to design of projects exceeding £2m

Essential competencies/skills:
- Sound technical capability and familiarity with current industry standards and software applications
- Ability to clearly communicate technical detail to a non-technical audience
- Ability to prepare sketches, technical reports and specifications
- Ability and propensity to coach and mentor enthusiastic and inquisitive junior engineering and cad staff
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel to produce project related documents
- Ability to use software such as Analytical/Design software such as Robot, Etabs, Staad, CSC, RAM, Tedds and AutoCAD/Revit to view and print drawings.

- Aware of a range of BIM tools and appreciates the relative advantages/disadvantages.
