Assistant project manager - International education

Job Profile

Mott MacDonald’s International Development Services division operates as three separate portfolios within the international development arena, Environment and Water, Education and Health.

International Education makes people’s lives better, by helping them to improve teaching and learning and the running of their education systems. Job Description

Responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting Project managers
    with maintaining timely and appropriate communication with clients, consultants, suppliers, local offices and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to the process of administrating and completing independent and sub consultant contracts
  • Support the financial management of projects
  • Submit invoices to clients, and assist in debt management
  • Review and process consultants invoices
  • Monitor budgets and report status periodically
  • Review, monitor and identify risks in our projects, reporting progress periodically
  • Support with producing, formatting, and distributing documents
  • Bid and project proposals
  • Reports (standard reports run from internal Project Management Desktop (PMD) and ad-hoc project updates)
  • Presentations for internal meetings
  • CVs
  • Maintain up-to-date project files (paper and electronic) in line with internal Business Management Systems (BMS) including:
  • Complete Health, Safety & Security Risk Assessment’s.
  • Draft monthly project control forms for project managers
  • Identify gaps and suggest measures to address them
  • Archive reports and closed projectsAdditionally, the Assistant Project Manager will be required to:
  • be engaged with the process of continuous improvement and seeking ways of increasing efficiency
  • demonstrate behaviours which emulate our PRIDE values
  • accept other tasks and responsibilities which may reasonably be requested by their line manager or the Operations Manager.
  • As the Assistant Project Manager develops and increases competence there may be opportunities to increase responsibilities to undertake the above tasks more independently.
    All development and progression will be subject to:
  • the personal objectives, strengths and interests of the Project Officer
  • the availability of opportunities within the Division and/or wider Companythe agreement of the Divisional management.

Candidate Specification

Key skills, qualifications and experience
  • Degree qualified or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a similar role and/or environment
  • Proficient in using MS packages, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint (creating documents, formatting, manipulating data, creating graphs, etc.)
  • Full attention to detail and accuracy
  • Flexibility and team working skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken, written and listening
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan and organise own work and support others with the same
  • Competent numeracy skills with experience in creating and monitoring budgets and finances
  • Proactive and able to use own initiative to solve problems and seek opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Patience and ability to remain calm under pressureUnderstanding of and sensitivity to cultural differences in developing countries
  • Willing to travel on short tours to overseas assignments
